Adelaide Medicine Entry Requirements: UCAT, ATAR and Interview

Adelaide medicine entry requirements have changed since the University of Adelaide merged with UniSA to form Adelaide University in 2026. The medical program now sits with Adelaide University, but the core requirements remain the UCAT, academic results and an interview.

This guide explains the Adelaide medicine entry requirements, how selection works and how to prepare for each stage.

The Adelaide University medical program

Adelaide University offers a six-year integrated medical program. The first three years are the Bachelor of Medical Studies, and students who complete it successfully move directly into the Doctor of Medicine for the final three years.

Adelaide medicine entry requirements at a glance

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Meet the minimum academic entry requirements.

  • Meet the subject prerequisites.

  • Sit the UCAT ANZ in the year before entry.

  • Attend an interview, if invited.

Students with more than two years of undergraduate study are generally not eligible for this school-leaver program and should look at graduate pathways. The current ATAR and prerequisite details are listed on the official Adelaide University website.

Adelaide University UCAT requirements

The UCAT ANZ plays a major role in Adelaide selection. If you meet the academic minimum, you are selected for interview based on your UCAT ANZ results. That makes UCAT preparation especially important for Adelaide applicants, and a strong UCAT result is the key to reaching the interview stage.

The Adelaide medicine interview

Invited applicants complete an interview that assesses qualities such as communication, ethical reasoning, motivation for medicine and teamwork. This is a complex, multi-mini interview format, which will have 6 - 8 stations each focusing on different themes of:

  • Personality

  • Motivations and personal experiences

  • Leadership

  • Resolving ethical conflicts

  • Organisation

After the interview, final offers are based on a combination of your interview performance and UCAT ANZ results.

How to apply and key dates

  • Early in the year: register for the UCAT ANZ.

  • July to early August: sit the UCAT ANZ.

  • Application period: apply through SATAC by the medicine deadline.

  • Later in the year: interview invitations and interviews.

  • Following January: offers released.

Exact dates change each year, so check SATAC and Adelaide University for the current timeline.

How to meet the Adelaide medicine entry requirements

  • Start UCAT preparation early, because it decides who is invited to interview.

  • Keep your school results strong to meet the academic minimum.

  • Prepare for the interview early. Most students wait for the invitation, which leaves very little time.

  • Learn about the realities of medicine through reading, volunteering or talking to doctors.

Rural pathways may be available, which will allow a significantly lower UCAT and ATAR cutoff for consideration. Check the Adelaide University website for current eligibility.

Can interstate students apply?

Yes, interstate students can apply through SATAC, provided they meet the requirements.

When should I start preparing for the Adelaide medicine interview?

Ideally before invitations are released. The time between invitation and interview is often short.
